Oh the dreaded County News
Detrimental actions by elected and appointed leaders will have consequences for Madison County. Madison County had an opportunity to do something great for the people who live here, and they dropped the ball.
Finally, Diana Norton has left at the top of the tax office drag, but what did the county commissioners do? They replaced her with someone worse- April Plemmons.
April Plemmons is no more competent to fill this position than her mother-in-law, Brenda Plemmons West, who used to work at the tax office, or Brenda’s sister, Kathy Proffit West (department head for transportation). What about Jessica West of Madison’s tax office?
I received one of the most comical, pathetic phone calls from Jesse West, Brenda and Kathy’s niece?
She contacted me using a fictitious blocked number on a Sunday at 11:35 AM. I assume she used County Tax records to call me.
The first thing out of her mouth was, “Are you taping me?” She thought I wasn’t, but I was. After this call, I filed a formal complaint with the county and the state Revenue Department.
I haven’t posted the tape because it sounded to me like her unfit and unqualified aunt, Kathy Proffit, put her up to it. She was so pathetic in understanding language and grammar that I had a bit of sympathy for her.
She stated she was not taking the department head job and that I needed to stop talking about her aunt. This type of behavior is typical of women in the Madison County government. I asked her why her aunt didn’t call. Why? Because her aunt was at church, this is hilarious.
During this conversation, I asked her if she understood county policy regarding contacting taxpayers outside office hours. West said she could do whatever she wanted when she was off the clock. She stated she could make more money at Ingles than at Madison County’s tax office.
If she was not worried about the call, why did she ask me if I was taping it? I said, “You are not qualified for this job, no more than your aunt is qualified to be a Transportation director.” I asked her if she knew how to do an audit on agricultural welfare.
She responded, “Why do you call it that?” I answered, “You don’t know, do you? This is why you are too illiterate to do this job.”
West said at this point she was proud to be a hillbilly. I don’t think she knew what the word meant. I told her I have known a lot of hillbillys who were not illiterate.
Like most of these West women, April Plemmons and Jesse West spend most of their time complaining about how much money they should make without any concern for the fact that we, the Taxpayers of this county, are paying for this ineptitude.
Doesn’t Madison County have a Nepotism Policy in place? Shouldn’t one of these West beauties be sent home? Plemmons’s husband is a plumber. Is he doing work for the county?
I think the commissioners don’t want an intelligent person in this department because the law requires ALL Agricultural Welfare to be audited by an on-site visit and proof of following forestry plans and IRS laws.
Plus, all the mess these employees have made over the years classifying lots and their sizes for the benefit of graft to the commissioners and their buddies who do not follow NC state law under the Machinery Act or pay their fair share like the rest of us.
I guarantee that none of these tax department women have the wherewithal to read and understand the NC Machinery Act, but neither do the commissioners.
This speaks volumes about the state of affairs of the Madison County government.
While on the state of affairs, what about the Sheriff’s Department? Bye Bye Juvenile Detention Center who was in charge of that? I believe we have a Madison County Day for that former employee. What about the Rape? Don’t forget that, folks…

What great planning by county managers over the years! If this courthouse build had been planned correctly years ago, it would have been paid off through a bond by now.
But no. Instead, Forrest Gilliam took the county money and put it into the schools because his mommy wanted him to. Look at the school’s buildings and football fields; they are much better than the rest of the county’s buildings, but you watch these commissioners will be feeding these pigs at the trough in the upcoming budget meetings.
The county does not have the tax revenue it has had in the past; we will be burdened with paying all the taxes in this county, not the freeloaders below.
Because of this county’s malfeasance, taxes may go up this year or next. Will they cut? Not likely. Will they abide by the law and audit these people below? Not on your life.

These facilities are essential for everything from social media to online banking, their rapid growth seriously strains our aging power grid.

Data centers are power-hungry beasts. Operating around the clock, they keep our digital world running smoothly, but that comes at a cost.
