He exemplifies the cultural dynamics of Madison County, which is often referred to as the ‘Peyton Place’ of the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Harwood and Michael Garrison met with Republican District Attorney Seth Banks months ago to cover themselves. They wanted to stay in good graces because of the corruption in the Sheriff’s Department they oversaw and the trouble coming from Coy Phillips.
Everything Coy Phillips has done has had Sheriff Buddy Harwood’s blessing. I found it laughable that the Madison County Sheriff’s Department made a point of saying “ John Ledford hired Coy Phillips.”
Ledford did, but only because Buddy Harwood insisted on having his influence in the regime. Seth Banks’s uncle, the Yancey County Sheriff at the time, warned Ledford about Coy Phillips. Even after knowing everything about Coy, they still went ahead with the hire. Why?
Because Folks Coy Phillips fit in with the Corrupt Palace and the ongoing unscrupulous and immoral actions by the Sheriff’s Department.

New allegations of corruption continue to emerge within the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
Concerns have been raised about the Madison County Sheriff’s Department’s commitment to protecting women and children in the community, despite its official responsibilities.
On Thursday, a woman was attacked at her business property off Highway 25-70. Reports indicate the accused has harassed the victim both online and verbally for over a year.
Sheriff Buddy Harwood has been accused of favoritism in this case, reportedly siding with the male suspect who allegedly humiliated and assaulted the victim in front of several witnesses, including her young daughter.
Sheriff Buddy Harwood is reportedly acquainted with the suspect’s family and has previously investigated a shooting incident at their residence. The suspect has a prior 50-B protective order on record. Despite this history, this ape was released back onto the streets of Madison County the same afternoon.
This incident constituted a public assault on the bypass that escalated over the course of a year.
The accused, who is approximately 300 pounds, drove his dump truck onto the victim’s property, verbally attacked her, attempted to involve her young daughter, and then headbutted the 130 lb victim in front of numerous witnesses.
After reporting this to the magistrate, the victim believed she was safe for at least 48 hours. Buddy Harwood assured us this would not happen because Buddy Harwood also has a 50-B violation, and in his mentally inept world, you gotta stand together against these damn Madison County women.
Headbutting a person significantly smaller than oneself suggests an intent to cause serious harm.
This incident constitutes a significant wrongdoing, and there is evidence to suggest that Sheriff Harwood is favoring the suspect. We urge the Madison County judicial system to intervene and protect its citizens, given the Sheriff’s failure to do so.
