What was initially framed as a swift and definitive strike against Iran is becoming increasingly unpredictable and potentially more dangerous. The expanding U.S.–Israeli campaign against Iran was presented, implicitly or explicitly, as a decisive effort to topple the regime, incite mass protests, fracture the Iranian state, and reassert U.S.–Israeli dominance in the region.

In a public social media post on Tuesday morning, one of Trump’s top officials announced he was resigning with a copy of his resignation letter and made bold claims, stating “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation” and accusing Trump of having started the Iran war “due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
Kent blamed “a misinformation campaign” that “undermined” Trump’s America First campaign and “sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran.” Adding, “This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States,” and “this was a lie.”

On Monday morning, March 3, 2026, a United States military commander stood before his noncommissioned officers, opened an operations readiness briefing, and told the troops under his command that President Donald Trump had been anointed by Jesus Christ to light what he called “the signal fire in Iran” — to cause Armageddon and mark the return of Christ to Earth. The commander cited the Book of Revelation. He had, according to the NCO who filed the report, a wide grin on his face.
This was not one rogue officer having a breakdown. Within 48 hours of the United States and Israel launching joint strikes on Iran last Saturday, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation — the watchdog organization that monitors constitutional violations within the armed forces — had received more than 200 identical or near-identical complaints from personnel serving in every branch of the military, across more than 40 units and 30 separate installations. Commanders in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Space Force were telling their troops the same thing: this is God’s war. This is biblical prophecy being fulfilled. You are soldiers of the Apocalypse.
Most Americans reading this news will likely react with some combination of disbelief and alarm. They will wonder: where does this come from? What theology produces military commanders who believe they are instruments of divine end-times engineering? How did a fringe nineteenth-century idea about the Rapture travel from the margins of Protestant theology into the operational briefings of the most powerful military in human history?
The answer to those questions is not mysterious. It is historical. And if you do not understand that history, you cannot understand what is happening right now in Iran — or what may happen next.
A Theology That Was Invented
Most Americans, including most evangelical Christians, do not know that the theological system now driving U.S. Middle East policy is less than 200 years old. Premillennial Dispensationalism — the interpretive framework that divides all of history into divine dispensations, identifies a specific role for modern Israel in triggering the end times, and predicts that true believers will be “raptured” to heaven before a final apocalyptic battle at Armageddon — did not exist in Christianity before the 1830s.
It was invented, largely by one man: John Nelson Darby, an Irish clergyman who broke from the Church of Ireland in 1828 and spent decades constructing an elaborate system for reading biblical prophecy. Darby’s key interpretive move was the separation of the Church from Israel in God’s prophetic plan.
In traditional Christian theology, going back to Augustine in the fifth century, the Church had inherited the promises made to Israel. Darby reversed this: Israel retained its own distinct prophetic role, and the Church would be removed from history — raptured — before God resumed dealing with the Jewish nation in a final seven-year period of tribulation culminating in the Battle of Armageddon.
Darby’s scheme was not immediately accepted. What transported it from theological novelty to mass American belief was a single publishing phenomenon: the Scofield Reference Bible of 1909. C.I. Scofield, a self-taught theologian and former Confederate soldier, embedded Darby’s dispensationalist interpretation as study notes directly into the biblical text. For millions of readers, Scofield’s notes appeared to be as authoritative as scripture itself. By the mid-twentieth century, Dispensationalism had become the default eschatology of American evangelical Christianity — not because it was ancient, not because it was theologically traditional, but because it was printed alongside the King James Bible in a widely distributed study edition.
What the Troops Are Actually Being Told
For secular readers who have not spent time inside evangelical eschatology, the specific content of the commanders’ briefings deserves translation.
When a commander tells troops that Trump has been “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran,” he is invoking a specific prophetic narrative. In premillennial dispensationalism, the sequence leading to Christ’s return requires a series of identifiable geopolitical events: the restoration of Israel, the rise of hostile surrounding nations, an escalating conflict centered in the Middle East, and ultimately the Battle of Armageddon — a final confrontation, located in northern Israel, in which Christ himself intervenes to destroy Israel’s enemies and establish his millennial reign. Iran occupies a specific role in this framework. Many dispensationalist interpreters identify Iran (ancient Persia) as one of the nations in the coalition described in Ezekiel 38-39, which they read as a prophecy of the Gog-Magog battle preceding Armageddon. An American military strike that draws Iran into direct confrontation with Israel is not merely a geopolitical event in this framework — it is a prophetic trigger, a step toward the final sequence.

John Nelson Darby, the principal figure from whom Scofield borrowed his biblical analysis. Darby was a Satanist, Freemason, and agent of the Rothschild-owned British East India Company. Darby’s family owned Leap Castle, renowned as the most sinister and occult castle in Ireland’s history.
Darby became a leader of a Christian sect called the Plymouth Brethren. He is generally credited with originating the “Secret Rapture” doctrine and made several trips to America to spread his “vaccine” of heresies. His Zionist view has derailed, stunted, perverted, and impeded the spread of the “fulfilled gospel” and hindered the Church in its mission. Zionism teaches a future coming of Christ and an earthly kingdom.
This is what Rothschild, Scofield, Dallas Theological Seminary, Pat Robertson, John Haggee, Tim LaHaye, Billy Graham, Paula White, Trump’s spiritual advisor, Joel Osteen, Joni Lamb, and countless others have created: a perverted religion where ignorant segments of the body can’t discern Scripture.

The continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz means that gasoline and liquid natural gas will steadily increase in price, and that is creating significant political problems for Trump and the Republicans.
